WHISTLING DEATH - F4U Corsair

Best known for its gull wings, the F4U Corsair was iconic for its role in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. There’s dispute about the accuracy and claims of the Japanese calling this plane the “Whistling Death”, but the result of the nickname was due to the wing-root inlets for feeding air to the engine. And…if DEATH is not the word you wish to describe it, the F4U has been called “The Sweetheart” on occasion.
